Joint health
Joint comfort depends on slow-turnover tissue: cartilage, tendon, and ligament remodel over months, not days. Supplements in this category supply substrate — collagen peptides, matrix building blocks — and shift inflammatory signaling at the margins. Nothing here acts quickly, and anything promising overnight results is selling something.
The honest expectation is a small improvement in comfort ratings that takes 8–12 weeks to appear, if it appears at all. Trials in this category split notoriously: real for some people, absent for many. Note the date you start something, judge it at week twelve, and stop paying for whatever changed nothing.
Ranked by evidence
- Collagen peptides 10–15 g daily; judge at 12 weeks, before training when targeting connective tissue
- Glucosamine + chondroitin 1500 mg glucosamine sulfate + 1200 mg chondroitin daily; give it 8–12 weeks, then decide
- Omega-3 (EPA/DHA) 2–3 g EPA+DHA daily with meals; joint-comfort effect builds over months
Grades are per goal–ingredient pairing, hand-assigned from the evidence records linked on each monograph. Ingredients without a link have a monograph on the way.
What does not work (yet)
- BPC-157. Rodent tendon and ligament data only — no published human efficacy trials, and it sits outside the dietary-supplement category. Read the editorial
- Glucosamine HCl blends. Trial results run weaker than for the sulfate forms, and large well-blinded trials of chondroitin alone showed minimal benefit.
The list above is the general case. Your medications, current stack, budget, and other goals change it — sometimes a lot.
